DICK WHITTINGTON
Chapel Players

Producer Deborah Barnes
Choreography Kelly Nadin & Helena Jodrell
Musical Director Rebecca Varnouse

Although Chapel Players have performed many pantomimes over the years, this is the first time since joining NODA and would like to welcome them into the organisation. It was very refreshing to see new faces and new ideas and I was pleased to see that there were a number of men within this company.
Kelly Nadin as Dick gave a credible performance as did Jill McKenzie as Alice. A strong performer was John Gilberthorpe as Alderman Fitzwarren, he had good clear diction and rapport with the audience. Helena Jodrell was well cast as Vigella Ramsey and had a terrific sense of comedy and timing. Congratulations to Dan Mason as Arfur Rat, again good strong diction and rapport with the audience. Well done to Harry Goddard as Tail, who stepped in at the last moment, he looked sinister throughout and was good foil for Arfur. Sara Banks and Caroline Gilberthorpe worked well together as Dixon and the Gendarme, both well characterised and had the audience on their side throughout. All other principals were well cast and good supporting actors. Congratulations must also go to the chorus and dancers who performed with confidence.

This panto was certainly worth seeing and was well received by the audience, I look forward to seeing you all again in the future, keep up the good work and thank you for your kind hospitality.

PLAY ON
Chapel Players

Director John Gilberthorpe

This play is definitely one that any amateur would appreciate watching, as it takes us through final rehearsals. It has the comedy right from the word go, as we see the actors rehearsing for their opening night and combines not only a writer that keeps adding more ideas to the plot 3 days before the play opens, but then we see the added stress it all brings to each of the personalities taking part, who still cannot remember lines- sound familiar? The director had got this just right, without forcing the comedy, and the characters all had good timing. Congratulations to all concerned, each character was well maintained throughout. I particularly enjoyed the interaction between the actors, this was slick and particularly difficult as the same 3rd scene was repeated differently, not easy to learn something 3 differing wrong ways.

Whilst not wishing to single out any one person as they were all very good characters I must congratulate Angela Buttrill who had to step in at a moments notice to play the part of Phyllis the author of the play. Her performance was spot on and her character perfect, well done.

Thank you for a very entertaining evening and your kind hospitality, this was certainly a great performance from you all.

SLEEPING BEAUTY

This panto opened with a very enthusiastic chorus who sang well and
delivered dialogue confidently.  Many of the principal cast have played
before and I particularly enjoyed the performance by Caroline Gilerthorpe
as the bad fairy.  Her diction clear throughout and she commanded the
stage on each of her appearances.  She was ably assisted, by Fay Rowe as
Toad, who also delivered lines confidently and clearly.  Jenny Hague and
Sarah Banks as the Prince and Princess were well matched and worked well
together.  Although I would have liked to see the Prince stand a little
straighter.  John Gilberthorpe and Helena Jodrell as the Dame and
Freshand, brought comedy to their roles, as did Tim Hodkinson and Heloise
Green as the King and Queen.  Good accents from both these characters.  I
did struggle to hear some of the dialogue from the Good Fairy and the
Horse.  This was rather unclear in parts and needed a little more
projection.  I think a little more variation in the choreography would
have enhanced this producti
on, especially in the principal numbers, this would have given the
audience more visual enjoyment. Thank you for your kind hospitality.
